Jaipur to Jawai Bandh: Distance, Train, Cab and Bus Guide (2026-27)

Jaipur is one of the most common starting points for a Jawai holiday, and it is easy to see why. The Pink City has an airport, a major railway junction and good road links, while Jawai offers something no other part of Rajasthan can match: wild leopards living among granite hills, temples and village life. The only question most travellers have is how to cover the distance between the two without wasting a day.

This guide answers that in detail. You will find the real distance, travel time by road and rail, train timings, cab and bus tips, a packing checklist, a ready-made itinerary and the best season to travel. We run Agvani Resort in Bera, in the middle of the Jawai leopard country, and a large share of our guests arrive from Jaipur. Everything below comes from the questions they ask us most.

How Far Is Jaipur from Jawai?

Distances differ slightly depending on the road you take and which village you stay in, so treat the numbers above as ranges rather than fixed figures. Jawai is not one town. It is a cluster of villages such as Bera, Sena and Maad spread around Jawai Dam in Pali district. A property in Bera and one near the dam can be several kilometres apart, which is why published distances never match exactly.

For the most accurate number, enter your exact stay as the destination in Google Maps before you leave Jaipur. Also remember that the road time quoted online is usually a best case. Add time for traffic leaving Jaipur, toll plazas, a meal stop and the slower village road at the end.

Which Is the Best Way to Reach Jawai from Jaipur?

There is no single best option. It depends on who is travelling and what matters most to you.

Train suits solo travellers and couples. It is comfortable, the timings are predictable, and an overnight service lets you sleep through most of the distance.

Cab suits families, groups and anyone carrying camera equipment. You travel door to door, can stop for meals and photos, and don’t have to handle luggage at stations.

Bus is the cheapest route, but it usually involves a change at Pali, Falna, Sumerpur or Beawar, which makes the trip slower and less predictable.

Flight is rarely worth it. There is no airport in Jawai, and the closest ones, Udaipur and Jodhpur, are each about 145 to 165 km away. Flying from Jaipur to either city and then taking a cab usually takes longer than the direct train once you count airport time.

Jaipur to Jawai by Train

Three stations serve the area, and picking the right one saves you a long last-mile ride:

  • Mori Bera: the closest to Bera, roughly 4 km away
  • Jawai Bandh (JWB): around 15 km from the main safari villages
  • Falna: a bigger junction about 32 km away, with more train choices

Several trains run daily from Jaipur Jn to Jawai Bandh. The popular ones are listed below. Railways revise timetables often, so please confirm the current schedule on IRCTC before you book.

Train Departs Jaipur Reaches Jawai Bandh Duration
12547 Aravalli Superfast Express 02:00 07:12 5 h 12 m
19032 Yoga Express 03:35 09:34 About 6 hours

14701 Aravali Express 09:25 15:37 6 h 12 m

Note: Please verify train numbers and timings on the official Indian Railways enquiry system before travelling, as schedules may change.

How to choose your train

  • Want a safari on the same morning? The 02:00 train gets you in around 7 am. Tell us your arrival time in advance so your room and breakfast are ready, and so you can head out with fresh energy.
  • Prefer a relaxed daytime trip? The 09:25 departure arrives in the afternoon, ideal for an easy check-in, a swim and a sunset by the hills.
  • Avoid the 17:40 train unless necessary. It reaches Jawai Bandh close to 11 pm, and the last stretch to a village stay is quiet and dark.

Train booking tips

  • Book as early as the booking window allows, especially for weekends and the October to March season.
  • Keep a backup option, such as a Falna arrival with a cab onward, in case your preferred train is full.
  • Download your e-ticket and carry an ID, because station network can be patchy in rural areas.
  • Save your resort’s number before you reach the station so you can coordinate the final ride.

Our standard check-in is 1:00 PM, with check-out at 10:00 AM. Early arrivals and late departures can be requested and are subject to availability. Ask us about early check-in on WhatsApp.

Jaipur to Jawai by Road

The drive heads south-west from Jaipur along the national highway towards Ajmer and Beawar, then continues into Pali district and finally onto smaller roads that lead to the Jawai villages. Exact turns change with your destination, so let navigation guide the last stretch.

What the drive is like

  • The first two thirds is fast, mostly four-lane highway driving.
  • The final part is slower village road with curves, speed breakers and the occasional herd of livestock.
  • Phone signal can drop in places, so download an offline map of the area before you leave.

Practical road tips

  • Leave Jaipur early, ideally between 6 and 8 am, so you reach before dusk.
  • Fill fuel and pick up water and snacks before the last leg, because options thin out near the villages.
  • Keep FASTag balance topped up for the toll plazas on the highway.
  • Try not to drive the final leg after dark. Stray animals and unlit roads are common, and leopards do cross roads at night in this region.
  • Share your live location with a family member if you are driving yourself.

Hiring a cab

A Jaipur to Jawai cab is usually a one-way or round-trip taxi booking. Rates change by season, vehicle type and route, so ask for the full fare in writing with exact pickup and drop points, and confirm whether tolls, parking and driver allowance are included. If you plan to continue to Udaipur or Jodhpur after your safari, a one-way drop saves you a pointless return trip. Our post on combining a Jawai leopard safari with a Rajasthan road trip shows how to link these cities in one itinerary.

Jaipur to Jawai by Bus

Buses straight to Jawai are uncommon. Most travellers take a Jaipur bus to Pali, Falna, Sumerpur or Beawar and then hire a local cab or use shared transport for the rest. It works if you are on a tight budget and have time to spare, but it is the least predictable option and not ideal after dark. Always check the latest timings at the bus stand or on a booking app, and keep some buffer time in your plan.

Train, Cab or Bus: Quick Comparison

Factor Train Cab Bus
Comfort High, especially in AC classes High Moderate
Flexibility Fixed timings Leave when you like Limited
Best For Solo travellers, couples Families, groups, photographers Budget travellers
Last-Mile Ride Needed Yes No Yes
Predictability High High Low

If you are still unsure, choose the train for two travellers and the cab for four or more.

Planning Jaipur to Jawai With Family, Seniors or Kids

A long journey needs a little extra thought when children or older family members are involved.

  • Choose a cab with a mid-way stop. A break every two hours keeps everyone comfortable.
  • Pick a daytime arrival. Avoid the 17:40 train and late-night drives.
  • Carry basics. Water, light snacks, wet wipes, any regular medicines and a light blanket for AC coaches go a long way.
  • Book a room with easy access. Ground-level rooms and cottages are easier for seniors.
  • Slow down the first day. Arrive, rest, eat well and save the safari for the next morning.

Agvani Resort is suitable for families and children, and we also welcome pets, with a request to keep them well trained so other guests stay comfortable.

What to Pack for Jawai

  • Comfortable shoes with good grip for rocky ground
  • Earth-toned clothes such as olive, khaki or brown rather than bright colours
  • Warm layers for winter mornings, since safaris start early and it gets very cold in the open vehicle
  • Sunscreen, cap and sunglasses for the day
  • Binoculars and a camera with a zoom lens if you have them
  • A power bank, as charging in the field is not possible
  • Personal medicines and a basic first-aid kit
  • Reusable water bottle

A Simple 3-Day Plan from Jaipur

Day 1: Travel and settle in. Take the morning train or leave Jaipur early by cab. Check in, relax by the pool and enjoy an evening walk among the granite boulders. Dinner at our in-house restaurant keeps the first night easy.

Day 2: Safari day. Start with a sunrise leopard safari across the rocky hills and Rabari villages, where leopards live close to people. Return for breakfast and a rest. In the afternoon, explore the activities on our things to do in Jawai page, such as nature walks or time at the dam. Finish with a bonfire evening. See current options and rates on the Jawai safari booking page.

Day 3: Head back or move on. Return to Jaipur by train or cab, or continue to Ranakpur, Kumbhalgarh, Udaipur or Jodhpur.

We recommend at least two nights. A single night feels rushed after such a long journey, and a second safari improves your chances of a good sighting. For an honest take on what to expect, read Is a leopard sighting guaranteed in Jawai?

What Makes Jawai Worth the Journey

Many travellers wonder whether such a long trip is worth it. Here is what you get for the effort.

Leopards in open country. The Jawai and Bera area is home to an estimated 60 to 70 leopards. Unlike thick forest reserves, the hills here are bare granite with scattered caves, so leopards are often seen resting on rocks at dawn and dusk.

A living culture. The Rabari community has herded livestock here for generations, and their villages sit right beside leopard territory. Meeting the community adds a human side to the wildlife experience.

More than leopards. The landscape also supports hyenas, foxes, mongooses and many bird species, especially around Jawai Dam in winter, which makes it rewarding for birdwatchers and photographers.

Quiet and space. There are no crowds or traffic here, only open hills, big skies and silence, which is exactly what most visitors from Jaipur are looking for.

Best Time to Travel from Jaipur to Jawai

Season Months What to Expect
Winter October to March Best weather and the most popular season for leopard safaris.
Summer April to June Very hot, so plan activities for early morning and late afternoon.
Monsoon July to September Greener hills, but road conditions can vary, so check ahead.

For most travellers, November to February gives the most comfortable mix of weather and wildlife. Book early for long weekends and holiday periods because rooms and safari slots fill up quickly.

Common Mistakes to Avoid

  1. Booking the late-night train and arriving at an unfamiliar station close to midnight.
  2. Trying a same-day return from Jaipur. Travel alone takes 12 hours or more.
  3. Skipping an advance booking for safaris and rooms during peak months.
  4. Expecting a guaranteed sighting. Leopards are wild animals, so patience matters.
  5. Wearing bright colours or using strong perfume on safari.
  6. Not confirming pickup from the station before you arrive.
