Planning a Jawai itinerary? Should you stay two days or three in Jawai? Most travellers ask this first. Both work. The right choice depends on how much you want to see and how fast you like to travel.
Two days is enough for a quick leopard trip. Three days gives you time for the villages and the dam, and a second chance if the first safari does not show a leopard.
Below you will find both plans day by day, with safari timings from Agvani Resort. The last sections explain how to book.
Quick answer: Choose 2 days (1 night) if you have a short break and want two safaris. Choose 3 days (2 nights) if you want more chances to see a leopard, plus time for the villages and the dam.
Either way, the gypsy is only for your group, and Agvani Resort plans your room and safaris together. See the resort page for room options.

Jawai Itinerary: How Many Days Do You Need?
Not sure whether to book one night or two? Use this list to decide.
Choose 2 Days If…
- You have a long weekend, or only one night free
- You are coming from Udaipur or Jodhpur and want to keep the trip short
- Two good safaris are enough for you
- You do not want to spend the whole day by the pool
Choose 3 Days If…
- You want more than one chance to see a leopard, because wild leopards do not follow a schedule
- You also want to see the villages, the dam and the hills
- Kids or parents are travelling with you and you want a slow pace
- You want a holiday, not a rush
2 Days vs 3 Days at a Glance
| Plan | 2 Days | 3 Days |
|---|---|---|
| Nights | 1 Night | 2 Nights |
| Leopard Safaris | 2 Safaris | 3–4 Safaris |
| Extras | Dam visit, if time allows | Village safari, hi-tea and nature walk |
| Best For | Short breaks and weekend trips | Families, photographers and slow travellers |
Only have two days? That is fine. Many guests see a leopard on the very first safari. The third day is just a backup.

Jawai Leopard Safari Timings
Safari timings decide your whole day, so check them first. Leopards are most active early in the morning and in the evening, so the main safaris run in those two slots.
Morning Safari (5:30 AM to 8:30 AM)
Most guides suggest this slot first. The air is cool and the light is soft. A leopard may still be resting on a rock after a night of hunting.
Tea and coffee come with you in the gypsy. You will be back at the resort for a relaxed breakfast.
Evening Safari (5:00 PM to 8:00 PM)
The heat drops, the hills turn golden and the leopards start to move. Photographers like this slot the most.
Daytime Safaris
You will not see leopards in the mid-morning, but there is still plenty to see:
- Jungle safari, 10:00 AM to 12:30 PM
- Village safari, 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM
- Bird and crocodile sighting, 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM
- Jawai Dam visit, 10:00 AM to 11:30 AM
Full Day Safari (11:30 AM to 6:30 PM)
This is a full day in the wild in a 4-seater gypsy. It suits small groups and photographers, and anyone who does not want to rush back.
A Few Quick Notes
- Reach the pickup point 10 to 20 minutes early
- Timings can change with the season, so confirm them when you book
- Every slot is explained in our Jawai leopard safari timings guide
Jawai 2 Days Itinerary: One Night, Two Safaris
With one night, you can fit in two leopard safaris, proper meals and some rest. The plan works around the 1 PM check-in and 10 AM check-out.
Day 1: Check-in, Rest and Evening Safari
- 1:00 PM: Check in, freshen up and have lunch
- Afternoon: Rest, or sit by the pool and look at the hills
- 4:45 PM: Reach the pickup point
- 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM: Evening leopard safari in an open gypsy
- Night: Dinner at the restaurant, then a bonfire if it is cold
Do not plan anything heavy in the afternoon. A nap is the best preparation, because tomorrow starts very early.
Day 2: Morning Safari, Breakfast and Check-out
- 5:30 AM to 8:30 AM: Morning leopard safari
- 8:30 AM onwards: Breakfast and a little rest
- 10:00 AM: Check-out
The morning safari starts at 5:30 AM. Set two alarms and keep your warm clothes ready the night before.
If your train or flight is later in the day, ask for a late check-out. It is possible on request, subject to availability. You can also visit Jawai Dam (10:00 AM to 11:30 AM), which is a calm way to end the trip.
Jawai 3 Days Itinerary: Two Nights, Done Properly
With two nights you can repeat the safari, cover the villages and the dam, and still have time to relax by the pool.
Day 1: Arrive and Settle In
Same as the two-day plan. Check in at 1 PM, rest, then go for the 5:00 PM evening safari. End the day with dinner and a bonfire.
Day one is simple on purpose. It is for settling in and getting your first look at the hills.
Day 2: The Main Day
- 5:30 AM to 8:30 AM: Morning leopard safari
- Breakfast, then a short rest
- 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM: Village safari to see how the Rabari community lives, or a bird and crocodile sighting at the dam
- Afternoon: Lunch, then pool time or the spa
- Evening: Another leopard safari at 5:00 PM, or hi-tea on the Jawai hills
You do not have to do everything. If you are tired after the morning safari, skip the mid-morning trip and rest.
Day 3: Nature Walk or One Last Safari
You can end the trip in two ways:
- One more chance at a leopard: Go on a last morning safari, 5:30 AM to 8:30 AM. Have breakfast after and check out by 10:00 AM.
- Not in the mood for a safari: Take a nature walk over the granite hills. Your guide will show you small animals, plants used as medicine and long views of the hills.

Before You Go: Things That Help
Best Months to Visit
- October to March: Pleasant weather. Best time for safaris and sightseeing
- April to June: Hot days, but leopards stay near water
- July to September: Green hills, quiet and calm
Winter nights are very cold, which makes a bonfire feel great. About 60 to 70 leopards live in this area along with the village people, so every month has something to see.
For a month-by-month breakdown, read best time to see leopards in Jawai.
How to Reach Jawai
Udaipur is around 140 km by road and Jodhpur is around 160 km. Both have airports. The nearest railway station is Jawai Bandh.
Try to reach by 1 PM so check-in is easy. For routes from Udaipur, Jodhpur and Ahmedabad, read our how to reach Jawai guide or see the How to Reach page.
What to Pack
- Dull-coloured clothes. Bright colours stand out in the bush
- Mornings are cold and afternoons are warm
- A cap, sunscreen and shoes that can handle dust
- A camera with some zoom. Keep it in your hand, not in the bag
A few rules in the gypsy: no flash, do not stand up, talk softly and listen to your guide. Guides see these leopards all the time and know them well.
Where to Stay: Agvani Resort
Agvani Resort sits among granite hills, near Jawai Dam. All the comforts are on the property, so you can relax between two safaris. See the resort page .
Your Room Options
- Luxury tents: camp feel, but comfortable
- Cottages: Rajasthani style with plenty of space
- Cottages with a plunge pool: good for families, or for a slow trip
To check which room is free on your dates, book online here or message the team on WhatsApp.
What You Get Between Safaris
- A pool facing the hills
- Rajasthani food made from farm-fresh ingredients at the resort restaurant
- Bonfire evenings
- A spa
- Air-conditioned rooms, Wi-Fi and 24/7 room service
- Power backup and parking
Travelling with a pet? You can bring it, if it is well-trained and other guests are comfortable with it.
Mistakes to Avoid on a Short Jawai Trip
- Booking only one safari. Two safaris give you a much better chance.
- Reaching late. Check-in is at 1 PM and the evening safari starts at 5:00 PM.
- Skipping the alarm. The morning safari starts at 5:30 AM.
- Wearing bright clothes. Dull colours work better in the bush.
- Booking late in winter. December to February fills up fast.

FAQs
Is 2 days enough to spot a leopard in Jawai?
Mostly, yes. You get two safaris, which is a fair chance. The hills here are open and rocky, and about 60 to 70 leopards live in the area, so spotting one is easier than in thick forest. But this is the wild, and nobody can promise a sighting. If you want extra chances, take the third day.
What time do the leopard safaris start, and which one is better?
Morning is the first choice for most people. It runs from 5:30 AM to 8:30 AM, when the air is cold and the rocks are still quiet. The evening safari runs from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM, and the hills turn orange, which gives good photos. If you cannot choose, stay two nights and do both.
Do I share the safari gypsy with other guests?
No. The gypsy is only for your group. It seats up to 6 people (4 for the full day safari), so you can bring family or friends and go at your own pace.
Can I do a morning and an evening safari on the same day?
Yes. The timings do not overlap. Go out early, come back, rest or sit by the pool, and go out again in the evening. Many guests like this plan because leopards behave differently in the morning and the evening.
How early should I book if I am travelling between December and February?
Three to four weeks ahead, if possible. Winter fills up fast. The better rooms go first, then the safari slots. In the off-season, about a week’s notice is usually enough.
Can I check in early or leave late if my train or flight does not match?
Check-in is at 1 PM and check-out is at 10 AM. If your train arrives at 7 AM or your flight leaves late at night, just ask. Early check-in or late check-out is often possible, but it depends on how full the resort is that day. Share your timings when you book, and the safari slots will be planned around them.
